Mon ami Japp:

Description
Agatha Mary Clarissa, Lady Mallowan, DBE (15 September 1890-12 January 1976), also known as Dame Agatha Christie, English crime fiction writer, was one of the best-selling writer of books of all time. She is best remembered for her 66 mystery novels particularly those featuring detectives Hercule Poirot and Miss Marple.

This charming pair earrings features the cover of that wonderful Miss Marple mystery "4:50 to Paddington." Mystery buffs and Christie fans alike will enjoy sporting this pair of vintage book covers on their ears.

Made of durable plastic and coated with a matte sealer, these earrings are sure to turn heads and elicit a comment or two! A

Approximately 5/8" x 1-1/4" inches in size, the camera tends to reflect off of the surface and, unfortunately, cannot do these justice. Image is on one side only. Available in silver tone ear wire (as shown).

Also available as a book charm for $3.00, please see my book charm listing for further information.

These come on the backing shown and professionally sealed in a clear envelope. What a great gift for fans of all things literary.

NOTE: Each item I offer is an individually handcrafted, miniature work of art and should be treated as such. Plastic charms, though coated with four layers of acrylic sealer are not waterproof, and because they are plastic should not be exposed to heat, steam, fire or flame. Do not wear in the bath, sauna, or when involved in sports.

Oder kleine Schreibmaschinen-Pins mit Aussprüchen von Agatha Christie 5 $):

Description
Dame Agatha had a way with words, particularly when it came to murder. Here are four pins, each with a different quote regarding the gentle art of murder. Price is for ONE PIN ONLY. Please choose from one of the following in the Notes to Seller section when ordering:

#1 - "Every murderer is probably somebody's old friend."
#2 - "I specialize in murders of quiet, domestic interest."
#3 - "There is nothing so dangerous for anyone who has something to hide as conversation."
#4 - "Oh dear, I never realized what a terrible lot of explaining one has to do in a murder."

If you do not indicate a choice, then I'll choose for you.

This typewriter pin is handmade by me out of hard, durable plastic and covered with a matte sealer. It is very light and will not pull on clothing, or any other item to which it is attached. It measures 1-3/8" wide at the widest point (carriage) by 1-5/8" high. It will arrive sealed in a cellophane envelope, all ready for gift giving. Have a favorite quote that is not shown? I customize, so let me make one especially for you.

Please note that each item I offer is an individually handcrafted, miniature work of art and should be treated as such. Though coated with four layers of acrylic sealer this pin is not waterproof, and because it is plastic should not be exposed to heat, steam, fire or flame. Do not wear in the bath, sauna, or when involved in sports.

Last night I was watching David Suchet as Hercule Poirot in Death on the Nile and noticed he had a very interesting little note-taking kit. The silver case hinged open sideways, was a bit smaller than a cigarette case, had a tiny silver pen or pencil that seemed to slot in the side, and was filled with blank paper that flipped upwards like a reporter's notebook.

Has anyone else seen such a beautiful little creature around?

Bild

Ist er gar eine "Stil-Ikone"? Winston schreibt:

David Suchet's Hercule Poirot - Style Icon
The meticulous Belgian 'tec is not what you might call an obvious style icon for a young man. For one thing he is fictional, and secondly, his attitude towards clothing and fashion is actually rather like that of a bitter octogenarian towards the frivolous youth of today; he looks down upon it as a necessity, and something beneath his intellect to trouble himself with.

"No!", you may cry, "le petit Poirot is always elegantly attired in perfectly fitting suits and bow-ties; he cares a great deal about clothing." However, I believe what Mr. Poirot is really concerned with is his appearance and that is a rather different thing. There is a mathematics and symmetry to his habits and his detection and he owes his brilliance to his ability to spot the curious; the imperfections and flaws, that others seem to consider benign. This symmetry and fastidious approach to his daily life affects the way he dresses, and of course, for legitimacy, Mlle. Christie had Hercule dressed in elegantly cut clothing; he does not concern himself with "thingness", and lacks any obedience to trends. Form is crucial for him, and details indispensable. If it was so that he chose his apartment building for its satisfying symmetry, it is likely he chose his attire for the same reasons.

However, one would be mistaken for believing that this worship of perfect form leaves his ensembles as cold, equations of his mind; there is certainly character, it's just not the jaunty character of a Sam Spade or a Marlowe. It is the steely clean polish of a careful European, and it is a feast for the eyes. The spats are a feature, as is the bow-tie. The homburg hat always sits perfectly placed, the waistcoats always match the accessories and the ever-present silver clasp that holds his buttonhole, shines proudly on his spotless lapel. Grooming is the lesson of this creation - fashion may not be his forte, but the little Belgian has a knack for style.

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?t=39865

Men wearing vase/flower lapel pins?
Is the character of Hercule Poirot's famous flower vase lapel pin vintage? Did most men of the time wear one, or is it just another aspect of his eccentric character? And if not what would one traditionally wear in a lapel pin?

----------

The lapel vase is called a tussy mussy. Did most men of the time wear them? No. Was it an expression of his distinctive personality? As Poirot might have said, "Bien sûr, tout à fait."

http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=77177&page=2

If you look closely you will realize that this is not a lapel vase with a real flower but a jewellery accessory. It was offered to Poirot when he left Belgium, by a woman who was his love interest and he wore it all his life no matter what the rest of his attire was.
