Die Serien „The Scoop“ und „Behind the screen“ wurden von Mitgliedern des Detection Club verfasst und wurden wöchentlich im Radioprogramm der BBC 1930 und 1931 von den Autoren vorgetragen. Eine Woche nach der Ausstrahlung wurden die Manuskripte in der Zeitschrift „The Listener“ abgedruckt. Die beiden Serien erschienen in Buchform zuerst 1983 im UK bei Victor Gollancz und 1984 in den USA bei Harper & Row.
